Nine times out of ten, a flickering LED isn’t a bad bulb. It’s a mismatch between the bulb and the dimmer switch it’s wired to.

LED dimming runs on completely different electronics than the dimmers installed in most US homes. When the two don’t match, you get flicker, buzzing, or a bulb that quietly dies in six months.

Check these in order:

  1. Does the box say “dimmable”? If it doesn’t, get that bulb off the dimmer circuit — today.
  2. Does your dimmer say “LED compatible”? Older leading-edge dimmers usually need replacing with a trailing-edge or universal model.
  3. Is there only one bulb on that switch? Many LED dimmers have a minimum load. A single 9W bulb often isn’t enough — add bulbs or swap the dimmer.
  4. Still flickering with several bulbs and an LED-rated dimmer? That’s a wiring or switch issue. Time to call an electrician.

Here’s the part nobody tells you: a $20 dimmer swap fixes more flickering LEDs than a $60 bulb ever will.
