Designers published their 2026 “out” lists this fall, and one item will sting: exposed Edison and bare-filament bulbs. The look that defined the 2015 farmhouse era now reads like a coffee shop that never renovated.
Two reasons, and only one is aesthetic:
- Glare. A bare filament throws harsh, uneven light straight into your sightline.
- Waste. Visible-filament LED designs trade efficiency for looks — you’re paying for atmosphere the bulb doesn’t deliver.
The 2026 replacement isn’t abandoning vintage. It’s one rule: keep the silhouette, diffuse the source.
- Vintage brass fixtures, aged bronze, thrifted chandeliers — still firmly in style this fall
- The bulb behind them: dimmable 2700K LED behind opal or amber-tinted glass
- Smoked gray and amber glass shades are the season’s fastest-moving shade trend — they diffuse more gently than clear glass and cast a warmer tone
The 10-minute version: swap every bare-filament bulb in the house for a warm diffused LED, and put an amber glass shade on the fixture you see most. Same vintage soul, none of the squint.
